No-one asked him if he was really Terry Pratchett! They just took his word
for it! I was taught that about 20% of early afp were people asking that,
so it's a bit disapointing that his first post didn't engender this.

I believe that in his early days on the net, Terry mostly saw
that kind of question in e-mail. To the best of my recollection
it was never the case that alt.fan.pratchett was sceptical about
who he was.

You have to take into account that this was 1992, long before the
Internet exploded, and alt.fan.pratchett was a quiet little
backwater consisting of about five posts *per day*. It never even
occurred to me that TP might not be for real -- trolls and
pranksters existed back then, too, but there really would have
been very little point to such a deception. And besides, from the
very first post it just *sounded* like Terry...

Fascinating. I'm not even being sarcastic!

Does/did TP himself frequent alt.books.pratchett ?

So that's a "No".
It means exactly what it says, wise guy.

Terry Pratchett has posted over 800 articles to
alt.books.pratchett, and those include posts made in October,
November, and December of 2004. Seems to me that ought to cover
any reasonable definition of the concept "frequents this group".

So that's a "Yes".

Would it be churlish to point out that they *were* celebrating it just over 3
years ago? :-)
